Environmental Policy Statement
S.J.M Decorators Ltd is committed to preventing pollution and to complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and other environmental requirements.
We will regularly evaluate the environmental impact of our activities, products and services and we will take action to continually improve our environmental performance.
It is our policy to:
- Minimise the use of energy, water and natural resources.
- Minimise waste through prevention, re-use and recycling where possible.
- Dispose of waste safely and legally.
- Avoid the use of hazardous materials, where practicable.
- Work with environmentally responsible suppliers.
- Prevent environmental damage and minimise nuisance factors such as noise and air pollution.
We will define environmental objectives, targets, and improvement actions that are related to this policy and to our significant environmental aspects. We will regularly evaluate progress.
We are committed to providing relevant environmental training and promoting environmental awareness to employees and, where appropriate, to suppliers and to communicating our environmental performance.
We will implement processes to prevent environmental non-conformities and to ensure that we are prepared to deal with potential environmental emergencies.
This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to take account of organisational priorities and changes, environmental legislation and best practice.

Arrangements
Training and Communication
S.J.M Decorators Ltd are committed to raising the environmental awareness of personnel through induction and training. The company also aims for continual improvement of their environmental performance through effective communication with all staff.
All personnel are given an induction as appropriate to their work location, highlighting the environmental issues specific to the location.
Personnel are issued with a copy of this environmental policy during their initial induction and are also given continual communication throughout their employment on any potential environmental issues.
The company welcomes any suggestions or improvements by personnel that may strengthen the company’s commitment to continual improvement of their environmental performance.
Monitoring, Audit and Review
S.J.M Decorators Ltd are committed to the continual monitoring of their environmental performance. This is achieved through regular audits against a set list of criteria. Meetings are held at regular intervals to discuss the outcomes of these audits and how the company can achieve their aim of continual improvement.
The company also undertakes regular reviews (at least annually) of their environmental management systems to ensure their continued suitability.

Sustainability
S.J.M Decorators Ltd are committed to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
This is achieved through responsible sourcing of materials and encouraging all employees, customers, and suppliers to adopt sound sustainable management practices.
The company considers the following factors when sourcing materials:
- Utilising locally sourced materials (wherever possible) over materials that need to be transported greater distances, reducing the environmental impact.
- Utilising recycled materials (wherever possible) to reduce the demand on natural resources.
- Using materials that can be recycled (wherever possible) to reduce waste to landfill.
- Choosing durable materials with a long-life cycle (wherever possible) to reduce the need for repair or replacing.
- Choosing suppliers that also practice environmentally friendly processes to reduce the organisations indirect impact on the environment.
Waste
S.J.M Decorators Ltd aims to minimise waste to landfill and to operate within full compliance of Environmental law. This is achieved by operating in line with the waste hierarchy:
- Prevention – i.e. using less materials; keeping products for longer / re-using; using less hazardous materials.
- Preparing for Re-Use – Checking, cleaning, repairing, refurbishing, whole items or spare parts.
- Recycling – Turning waste into a new substance or product.
Issue 1.00 – Jan 2023 - Recovery – i.e. incineration with energy recovery etc.
- Disposal – Landfill and incineration without energy recovery.
For waste that cannot be avoided, the company are committed to segregating, storing and labelling waste in line with current standards, and ensuring the appropriately licensed waste carriers and waste facilities are utilised.
Energy management
S.J.M Decorators Ltd are committed to reducing their energy usage. This is achieved through the following initiatives where appropriate:
- Utilising low energy lighting within our facilities and switching them off when areas are not in use.
- Selecting energy efficient equipment and switching them off when not in use.
- Promoting green initiatives amongst employees, such as ride to work schemes, carpooling to the office and / or travelling together to site.
- Operating a green fleet of company vehicles (where possible) to reduce emissions.
- Regular servicing and maintenance of equipment to prevent leakages or higher fuel / energy consumption.
- Ensuring air-conditioning, space heating and water heating only operate during office hours.
- Placing water displacement devices within cisterns to reduce water usage.
- Working with local authorities to improve transport infrastructure to reduce the number of vehicles travelling to our facilities.
Environmental Incidents and Emergencies
S.J.M Decorators Ltd will ensure that all personnel are trained and aware of the emergency procedures in place within the organisation should an environmental emergency occur.
The company ensures that the appropriate equipment for potential environmental incidents and emergencies is provided, maintained, and serviced ready for use. The appropriate records for environmental incidents are also maintained and monitored for potential trends in recurring incident types.
The company are aware of their duties to report environmental incidents to the Environmental Agency (https://www.gov.uk/report-an-environmental-incident) as well as the incidents that are reportable to their local council and / or utility company.
Complaints
All complaints received by S.J.M Decorators Ltd are taken with the utmost seriousness and the company have a robust complaints procedure in place. All complaints are recorded and monitored by management to ensure they dealt with to the highest standard.
Complaints can be registered by the following means:
- In person.
- Telephone.
- Post.
Supplier and Sub-Contractor Selection
S.J.M Decorators Ltd have a robust procedure in place for ensuring suppliers and / or subcontractors have the appropriate environmental procedures in place for the protection of the environment, equal to the standards expected of the company itself.
The company ensures potential suppliers and contractors complete the selection process and are also subject to continual monitoring in line with the companies environmental monitoring procedures.
Suppliers and Sub-Contractors are also regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to meet the required standard and should a greener alternative for the services / products provided become available, the company are committed to investigating the implementation of such products / services.
